Photography Classes

As some of you know, a few weeks ago I started my Digital Photography Course at the Portuguese Institute of Photography. Classes have been quite interesting and productive. Although the course is focused on digital, on friday we had a three hours class of Photography Laboratory Technique, working knowledge of darkroom processing and techniques, learning how to produce black and white film photography prints, operating photographic and printing equipment, determining development times and applying chemicals to obtain clear authentic prints. It’s a trial and error process, but I enjoyed it very much. I understand now why the best images in the world are still produced on film. The quality of detail is still superior in film. But well, digital photography makes it easy and cheap, much easier to edit than film and even if you don't have lots of memory in your camera, you can still preview and delete images that don't look right. That can't be done with film.

New Camera

Last week I finally bought my first DSLR camera- Canon EOS 450D EF- S 18-55mm IS kit! It was about time! For a long time I had been feeling very limited using my bridge camera Fujifilm S5700, so, I'm happy that now I’ll be able to exchange lenses, to select the best lens for the current photographic need, attach additional accessories and take my photography to the next level.

I still have the old Pentax K1000 (totally manual) film SLR I learned on almost 20 years ago! You might not use it much but I agree that it is supremely important to know "why" an image is an image, and the best way to do that is through the old chemical process... good luck!
